International Initiative for Development for Ethnic Art

History

After the fall of the former political regime we found ourselves in a situation which left us shocked, and understanding or even defining it becomes problematic. Pluralist systems surrounding us have created a labyrinth in which many of us lose our way. While in Western Europe the post-modern philosophy has become a lifestyle feeding creativity, in our context, it is perceived ambivalently, almost haviing a hostile nature. A percentage of young people under the influence of commercials fall under the illusion that culture and art is that what is presented by commercial media. As a result of these influences, they not only waste their own creative potential, but at the same time accept innappropriate role models.

Thus it is important for us to know to what extent we utilize our inner potential, how we enrich ourselves and whether we are developing at all.

We are convinced that creativity contributes to self-perception, identity, security and deepens the feeling of freedom. People have been gaining strength and life energy from it since the dawn of time. These factors allow a person to lead a full life and motivate him to self-actualization.

The main mission of the project of civil association MIRET is to prepare a base that will help to re-establish cultural values and find appropriate role models, fight racism and support young artists.

The years 2002 and 2003 have become, so to say, milestones in our existence, ideas and realized projects. From a small association in Bystrá it has grown into a group of creative, willing, active, open-minded people with a big heart, strongly determined to become involved in our pro-Roma projects.

The year 2010 MIRET witnessed the first new young generation to get involved in organization and artistic activities held by MIRET which helps talented Roma children and youth.
